Adherence/Compliance: Counseling or special programs to ensure readiness for and adherence to HIV/AIDS treatments.


Alternative Therapy: Non-traditional treatments used to improve an individual's quality of life including acupuncture, homeopathy and massage.



B


Buddy System: Activities provided by peers or volunteers to assist a client in performing activities of daily living.



C


Care Case Management: Professionals who link clients with primary medical care and other services to ensure coordinated access to health care and support services.


Counseling and Testing: Sites that provide the HIV antibody test to individuals to determine whether the individual is HIV infected


Counseling-Personal and Family: Counseling for personal problems, coping with loss or tragedy, or relieving family crisis.


Crisis Intervention Agency: Agency specializing in crisis intervention by focusing on and resolving problems that are overwhelming or traumatic.


Cultural Organization: Organizations that specialize in providing education and services to individuals of a specific culture.

Dental: Clinics that provide general dentistry, including cleaning, extractions and caps.


Drop-In Center: Locations that are designed to provide easy access for people to get education, information and services.



E


Early Intervention Program: Centers that provide medical management to individuals with HIV.


Education: Specialized instruction regarding HIV prevention or HIV care and treatment.



F


Faith Initiative Project: Initiative helping faith communities develop positive responses to the HIV epidemic.


Financial Assistance: Provision of short-term payments for transportation, food, essential utilities or medication assistance.


Food Bank: Provision of food, meals or nutritional supplements.



G


G/L/B/T/Q (Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender/Questioning): Provision of services specifically tailored to individuals with alternative lifestyles.



H


Health Education/Risk Reduction: Services to educate individuals about methods to reduce the spread of HIV.


Hepatitis Treatment: Services to educate or provide medical care for individuals with Hepatitis.


Housing and Shelter: Provision of short-term or emergency financial assistance to support temporary and/or transitional housing to enable an individual to gain or maintain medical care.

Information and Referrals: Information or referrals to HIV prevention, care and treatment or social services.

Legal Assistance: Provision of legal services directly necessitated by a person's HIV status.



M


Medical Treatment: Professional diagnostic and medical services from a physician, physicians' assistant, clinical nurse specialist or nurse specialist or nurse practitioner in an outpatient, community-based or office-based setting.


Mental Health: Psychological and psychiatric treatment and counseling services.


Mentally Ill Chemically Addicted: Specialized services for individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues.

Nutrition: Provision of nutritional education and/or counseling provided by a registered dietitian.

Outreach: Street/Community: Identifying individuals in a community at risk or who may not known their status so they can be HIV tested.



P


Patient Incentive Program: The Patient Incentive Program is a specialized counseling and testing intervention for "hard to reach" IDU. PIP is designed to locate, assess, identify and provide services to IDU who are not currently in drug treatment (or during the last six months), have not been tested for HIV within the past three months, and do not have access to any third party insurance (including Medicaid).


Peer Group: A group of individuals that meets in a supportive environment where all group members have equal standing with other group members.


Perinatal: Services provided to women of child bearing age, pregnant women and their newborns.


Prevention Case Management: A program that aims to prevent HIV infection by adopting HIV risk-reduction behaviors for clients. Prevention Case Management also works with the HIV infected client to assist in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and reducing HIV transmission.


Prevention with Positives: Services to educate clients with HIV about methods to reduce the transmission of HIV to others or reduce the risk of becoming re-infected with HIV.

Social/Skills Group: Groups facilitating learning social skills such as choosing appropriate behaviors.


Speakers Bureau: An agency that provides speakers on a variety of HIV related topics.


Spirituality/Pastoral: Care responding to the healing needs of individuals and their loved ones through spiritual assessment, care, and counseling.


STD Clinic: Clinics that provide education and treatment for STDs.


Substance Abuse Treatment: Provision of treatment and/or counseling to address substance abuse issues provided in an outpatient or residential health service setting.


Support Group: Periodic group meetings where individuals in similar circumstances get together to provide support to each other.



T


Technical Assistance: Providing training and support to organizations to guide them through a process.


Translation: Language translation or translation for the hearing impaired.


Transportation: Transportation services provided to a client in order to access primary medical care or psychological support services.


Tuberculosis Treatment: Education and treatment services for individuals who have tuberculosis.
